Tips to choose the right candidate for the organization

As a recruiter, you will receive a number of resumes for the position offered in your organization. After screening the resumes of the candidates, you start with pre-screening by making a phone call as the first round of interviews. Due to pandemics, every company has shifted their hiring process to online, and upon clearing the first round, you will schedule them for the next round of the online assessments where the candidate has to clear the assessment based on his skills which are relevant to the position he/she has applied. Once the applicant clears the online assessments he will be scheduled for a video interview either it can be two way or one-way video call interview. These video interviews will help in finding the right candidate apart from the skill set he has.

Save yourself from the headache of making the wrong decision. Consider these points in evaluating candidates during the video interview process:

1. Read Their Body Language

Body language of a candidate like arm movements, gestures, facing the camera, and dressing during the video call gives you a basic understanding of the candidate. This even shows how interested he is in the opportunity he has got.

2. Focus on Specific Experiences & Accomplishments

Try to dig into their past experience (if they are experienced) in a specific field or domain and their awards & accomplishment(if any) from the previous company.

3. Evaluate Their Work Ethic & Attitude

As a proverb says “Tongue shows your culture”, have a keen observation of the words or language they use about their colleagues or management in their previous company. Try to ask about the workloads, assistance in the work, and the support is given by the organization.

4. Is he a Life-Long Learner

Only Learning and updating ourselves to the industry will help us to remain in the IT field or any other industry. Look into the candidate’s interest in upskilling his skill sets and improving their knowledge. Only those candidates will become great assets to the company and will be able to handle any situation.

5. Ask about their passion:

Every individual will be having their own passion in their life apart from their regular 9–5 job. You will come to know about all these things when you are open and keep conversing with the candidate. Try to know about his passion, what he likes to learn or what makes him feel better and makes his soul peace.

Make sure you look beyond the skills and how candidates look on paper. The best candidate should have the most necessary skills but also have the potential to grow and be a culture fit for your team.
